Lesson #12 - Pursuing Peace With One Another
Series: The One-Another WayLESSON #12 – PURSING PEACE WITH ONE ANOTHER
1. What is the meaning of the Old Testament word, shalom?
~ While the Hebrew word shalom is often used in the Old Testament, it is not found in the New Testament,
although the Old Testament idea of shalom is bound up in the New Testament word peace.
~ Shalom and peace communicate much more than just the absence of conflict.
These words were frequently used in “greetings” and “farewells”.
Inherent within these words is the concept of wholeness, completeness, soundness, health, safety and prosperity.
Shalom and Peace are multi-dimensional - - covering all aspects of life: physical, psychological, social and spiritual.
The word peace is a salvific word as displayed by the text of Col.1:19-20 - - having made peace through the cross.
Paul speaks of “the gospel of PEACE” (Eph.6:15). When the apostle Peter visited the household of Cornelius
he spoke the word which (God) sent to the house of Israel, preaching PEACE through Jesus Christ (Acts 10:36).
Jesus is The Prince of Peace who came to bring peace to His followers (Jn14:27 and 20:19, 21 & 26).
2. Can you quote the seventh beatitude? cf. Mt.5:9 - -
Blessed are the PEACEMAKERS, for they shall be called the sons of God.
As God's children, we have an obligation to be peacemakers.

~ What do you think is to blame for much of the division and strife that we experience?
Is it differences in doctrine? Is it personality strife? Is it selfishness?
Is it a lack of humility? Is it jealousy or envy? Is it pettiness?
Is it holding grudges? Is it the inability to forgive? Is it a failure to swallow our pride?
~ In our disagreements do we sometimes lose sight of the big picture? - cf. Eph.4:1-7
Is divisiveness sinful? - cf. Rom.16:17
How much does it hurt our “witness” when we, as Christians, war with one another?
~ Have you ever known someone who seems to work from the premise, “it's my way or the highway”?
