1. What does it mean to “honor” someone?
~ The act of honoring others expresses itself in the “building-up” of others.
This should not be done with false pretenses nor ulterior motives, but genuinely.
It requires an intentional effort to look for the good in others!
~ Consider these synonyms for the verb “honor”:
show respect for … speak highly of … appreciate … commend … sing praises of … acknowledge … hold dear …
recognize … accept … value … esteem … applaud … look up to … enjoy … cherish … praise … salute … prize ...
express confidence in … give credit to … compliment … thank … award … care for … submission ...etc.
~ We're not directed to idolize others or put them on a pedestal.
Neither are we charged to worship (bow down to) or venerate others..
2. Does not the sanctity of human life translate into everybody being worthy of honor?
Fathers and Mothers – Mt.15:4 & 19:19; Mk.7:10 & 10:19; Lk.18:20; Eph.6:1-3 and Heb.12:9
Husbands and Wives – Eph.5:33 and 1Pet.3:1-2 & 7
Elders – 1Tim.5:1-2 & 17 and Heb.13:17
Widows – 1Tim.5:3
Children – Mt.18:5-6 & 10
Co-workers in the church – Timothy (well-spoken of by the brethren (Acts 16:2; 1Cor.4:17 and Philp.2:19-20) … .

3. How do we show honor?
~ The range is wide - - going from mere acceptance & acknowledgement to personal applause & celebration.
~ Might it honor someone to “put them to work”. i.e., to show confidence in them to assist with some good work.
~ Is visitation and providing care to others an act of honoring? - Js.1:27
~ Do simple acts of love and thanksgiving communicate honor to others? - Rom.1:8f; Eph.1:15f; 2Thess.1:3-4
~ Is the act of submission an example of honoring one another? - Heb.13:17
~ When we pray for others, is this a form of honor? - 1Thess.1:2-4 & 2:13 and 2Thess.1:3-4
~ What does it mean to “give preference to one another”? - Rom.12:10 and Phlip.2:3
4. Why are we sometimes weak in honoring others? Is such a disposition wrong?
Prov.3:27 / do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to do it.
Are we sometimes stingy with our verbal compliments and expressions of honor?
