Lesson #23 - A Defiance Of Science
Series: Home-BuildersLESSON #23 – A DEFIANCE OF SCIENCE
INTRODUCTION
Medical science has come a long way over the last few decades, especially in the realm of fetal development.
While the field of neonatal obstetrics has blossomed considerably, so has the world of pre-birth care.
Diagnostics and screenings are now able to monitor gestation with far greater detail and accuracy than ever before.
Most significantly, a wide range of maladies and diseases can now be treated in utero (while still in the womb).
WHEN DOES HUMAN LIFE BEGIN?
CONCEPTION
When a woman becomes pregnant she is most commonly recognized as being “with child".
From a Biblical point of view, God is at work in her womb. cf. Ps.139:13-16; Job 31:15; Isa.44:2 & 49:5 and Jer.1:5.
When read properly, Ex.21:22-25 provides both recognition and protection for the human child in the womb.
VIABILITY
At what stage can a child be born and survive (on its own) outside the womb?
(Whereas 37 weeks used to be the “norm”, many babies are now born as early as 24 weeks).
Here is a vivid illustration of how pro-choice advocates engage in a defiance of science.
This “viability stipulation” is a twisted argument intending to justify and condone earlier term abortions.
In truth, even full-term babies cannot survive on their own. Every newborn requires tender loving care.
BIRTH
Does the umbilical cord have to be cut to declare one’s human status?
Do deformities make a child a non-person (non-human)?
Does one have the right to terminate an unwanted, undesirable child at birth?
Infanticide is the intentional killing of a baby (post-utero). Abortion is the intentional killing a a baby (in-utero).
THE BLIGHT OF ABORTION
With marvelous advances having been made to allow for greater care of children in the womb, how does abortion remain?
The reality of millions of babies being aborted is a truly sickening blight on our nation.
How does something so barbaric continue to find a footing in such a highly-development world?
In the early days of legalized abortion, abortions outnumbered births by a 3 to 1 margin.
Stats from 2009 note a considerable shift (706 abortions for every 1,000 births).
Some refuse to view abortion as A MORAL EVIL. To many it is a convenient expediency - - even late-term abortions.
Recent events, such as the passage of the New York state's, Reproductive Health Act, were actually celebrated.
Last month the governor of Virginia, himself a physician, even went so far as to describe (and endorse) infanticide.
QUESTIONS FOR DISCUSSION?
7
1. What's the difference between a miscarriage and an abortion?
2. Is an abortion simply the removal of an unwanted growth?
Is a fetus simply a dis-ease? Perhaps viewed by many as a inconvenience?
3. Does all human life have a sanctity (sacredness) about it?
4. Does science reveal that children in the womb feel pain?
At what stage does a child in utero have its own heartbeat? Is an abortion a cruel and painful procedure?
5. Why do some women seek abortions?
What would it take (in your mind) for an abortion to be justified?
6. How often are abortions recommended and required to preserve the health of the mother?
7. What can be done to help promote adoption?
