The Spiritual Anatomy Of A Christian

THE SPIRITUAL ANATOMY OF A  CHRISTIAN

We need to have regular check-ups just like our physical anatomy needs to be checked to see that it is operating properly.

Introduction

How is your spiritual body today?
You know the old saying you are what you eat.
That also applies to the spiritual.
“Since”
What we put in our bodies as spiritual food will reflect in our spiritual anatomy.

For the next few minutes let us take a good hard look at our spiritual bodies and see how our spiritual health is.
It may be that we need to make some adjustments to our eating habits, exercise efforts, or mental acuity.
Let’s get started.
The Eyes Of A Christian

Should be Watchful

- Be sober, be watchful: your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour, I Peter 5:8

Needs to be Enlightened

- having the eyes of your heart enlightened, that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,  Ephesians 1:18

The Feet Of A Christian

Prepared and Covered

and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; Ephesians 6:15

Evangelizing

- and how shall they preach, except they be sent? even as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that bring glad tidings of good things! Romans 10:15

Running

- Therefore let us also, seeing we are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,

Hebrews 12:1

The Hands Of A Christian

Needs to be clean –
Who may ascend into the hill of the LORD? He who has clean hands and a pure heart. Psalm 24:3-4
Needs to be busy –
Whatever your hand finds to do, verily, do it with all your might; for there is no activity or planning or wisdom in sheol where you are going. Ecclesiastes 9:10
The Tongue Of A Christian

Controlled –

So the tongue also is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how much wood is kindled by how small a fire! And the tongue is a fire: the world of iniquity among our members is the tongue, which defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the wheel of nature, and is set on fire by hell. ….. But the tongue can no man tame; (it is) a restless evil, (it is) full of deadly poison. Therewith bless we the Lord and Father; and therewith curse we men, who are made after the likeness of God: out of the same mouth cometh forth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be.
James 3:1-10

Truthful

- Wherefore, putting away falsehood, speak ye truth each one with his neighbor: for we are members one of another. Ephesians 4:25

Doctrinally Sound

-  if any man speaketh, (speaking) as it were oracles of God; if any man ministereth, (ministering) as of the strength which God supplieth: that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, whose is the glory and the dominion for ever and ever. Amen.  1 Peter 4:11

The Mind Of A Christian

Unified –

Now I plead with you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.
1 Corinthians 1:10

Focused –

Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth  Colossians 3:2

Renewable –
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. Romans 12:2
The Heart Of A Christian
Control it –
Watch over your heart with all diligence, for from it flow the springs of life. Proverbs 4:23
Guide it –
Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Thy sight, O LORD, my rock and my Redeemer. Psalm 19:1

The Body Of A Christian

Sacrificial - I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, (which is) your spiritual service.  Romans 12:1

Glorifying - Or know ye not that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit which is in you, which ye have from God? and ye are not your own; for ye were bought with a price: glorify God therefore in your body.  I Corinthians  6:19-20

Protecting The Body Of A Christian

Armed

-  Wherefore take up the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and, having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having girded your loins with truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; withal taking up the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the evil (one). And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:  Ephesians 6:13-17

Having girded your loins with the belt of truth.

Truth keeps us from giving in to the world’s beliefs.
Compare your beliefs and actions to the truth of the word of God.
All the word of God is truth – John 17:17, Psalm 119:160
The breastplate of righteousness
Righteousness is being honest, good, humble, and fair to others.
It means standing up for weaker people.
It also means being right with God.

The only way to be right with God, is to do what He commands.

Feet prepared with the gospel of peace.
The gospel of peace is being right with God and being contented in troubled times.
Always being ready to give an answer of the  hope that is in you, yet with meekness and fear. 1 Peter 3:15
Jesus said peacemakers were blessed.
The Shield of Faith
Faith is being sure that God will keep His promises.
Faith in God protects you when you are tempted to doubt.
The helmet of Salvation
Believe that Jesus Christ died for your sins and rose again.
It is the protection of the mind.
The mind is the attitude of your heart.
Keep your heart with all diligence and lean not upon your own understanding. Proverbs 3:5
The sword of the spirit which is the word of God.
God’s word is our only offensive weapon.

When we tell others what the Bible says, the Holy Spirit begins to work on them to convict them of sin, and hopefully helps them to want to be forgiven.

Conclusion

Now that we have concluded our  anatomical check-up, let us all go forth with healthier spiritual bodies to be better servants in the Kingdom of God.
May God bless us as we serve Him.
