Where In The World Are The Brazles?
WHERE IN THE WORLD ARE THE BRAZLES?
In case you are not aware of it, our beloved camp directors, David & Lara Brazle and their two children are on a sabbatical of sorts. David has taken a leave of absence from his teaching post with a school in a Detroit suburb so that their family can see the world while they're young. As of late last summer they have been globe-trotting throughout Europe - - doing occasional tutorial instruction and/or taking in odd and end jobs here and there as they move from place to place via public transits. Sometimes they do house-sitting and/or pet-watching in the homes of locals. Often they lodge in a nearby “airbnb”. As they traverse the globe mom and dad are also continually engaged in home-schooling Graydon and Ameya.
Since leaving the states, they have journeyed to a slew of sites. In July they were in Ireland and Belgium; In August, Belgium and Paris; and in the month of September, they visited the United Kingdom with stops in Shinfield, London and Oxford. They spent October in Spain, where Lara has family – sightseeing in Madrid, Granada and Seville. In November they toured Athens, Greece and traveled back to Belgium (David's brother Luke and his family are there as missionaries). In December they explored Prague in the Czech Republic. This month they are in Italy. David called the other day from Rome to update plans for this summer’s youth retreat. They were headed for Pompeii later that day. February will include added trekking in Milan and Venice and then on to Slovenia. Tentative plans for this spring include excursions to Thailand, Hong Kong, Australia, New Zea-land and Hawaii. From there they will fly to San Francisco and perhaps make one final layover in the Dallas area to visit with David's parents, Mark & Jill Brazle, before returning to Michigan in the early summer just in time to finalize home-stretch preparations for our Camp 2:52 in late June.
You’re probably wondering, “How in the world can they afford to do this?". You can study their ingenious funding strategy and follow along with them on their world-wide expedition by visiting their blog at: https://chasingourunicorns.com/ - - it is a truly amazing undertaking!
