A Cluster Of Doppelgangers
A CLUSTER OF DOPPELGANGERS
My wife posted a photo of me on Facebook recently and someone texted back that I was a “doppelganger”. The implication was that in the picture posted I looked a whole lot like my father. It wasn't just my appearance, it was also my behavior. The German word “doppelganger” is defined as, a ghostly double of a living person. Technically, since my father has passed on, I am not a doppelganger. A more general understanding of the word conveys A STRONG LOOKALIKE. I am wondering if the church of Christ ought to be seen as a cluster of doppelgangers. In fact we often sing about this very idea: Let the beauty of Jesus be seen in me, All His wonderful passion and purity; May His spirit divine all my being refine...
Might not this be central to aiding the church in truly being the body of Christ? Notwithstanding the importance of practicing pure doctrine, this ingredient is indispensable if we are to be authentic: WE MUST BE A GROUP OF PEOPLE WHO LOOK LIKE JESUS!! This is what Christianity is really all about - - being Christ-like in every way. Let us then resolve, as a church, that we are going to become more and more like our Lord Jesus. Let us imitate Christ (1Cor.11:1); Let us seek to cultivate to the mind of Christ (1Cor.2:16); and let us earnestly follow in His steps (1Pet.2:21).
