2. How would you describe Peter’s personality?

FULL OF QUESTIONS AND ASSERTIONS

Lk.5:5 / Master, we worked hard all night and caught nothing, but at Your bidding we will let down the nets.

Lk.8:45 / Master, the multitudes are crowding and pressing upon You.

Lk.9:33 / Master, it is good for us to be here; and let us make three tabernacles; one for You…Moses and Elijah.

Mt.14:27f / Command me to come to You on the water

Mt.16:16 / Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God

Mk.14:29 / Even though all may fall away, yet I will not

Jn.18:10 / Simon Peter therefore having a sword, drew it, and struck the high priest’s slave, and cut off his right ear...

Jn.21:21 / Lord, what about this man (i.e., John the apostle)?

<> Do you view the above textual illustrations as unbecoming expressions of impetuosity?

Would you describe Peter as hasty, impulsive, rash and perhaps even impudent or brazen?

Do people sometimes talk when they should be listening?

<> Does your assessment of Peter applaud him for an eagerness to please?

Even though Peter sometimes put his foot in his mouth, do you think his heart was in the right place?

Did Peter feel so comfortable with Jesus that he was unafraid to fail?

3. How did Peter handle rebuke?

¡ Mt.16:23 / Get behind me, Satan!  You are a stumbling block to Me…

¡ Lk.22:31 / Simon, Simon, behold, Satan has demanded permission to sift you like wheat; but I have prayed

for you, that you faith may not fail; and you, when once you have turned again, strengthen your brothers.

¡ Lk.22:61-62 / The Lord turned and looked at Peter…and he went out and wept bitterly   cf. Mt.26:69-75

¡ Jn.21:15f / Jesus asked Peter three times, Do you love me?

¡ Gal.2:11 / Paul writes, When Cephas came to Antioch, I opposed him to his face, because he stood condemned.

4. Where and how did Peter die?

After being miraculously released from Herod’s imprisonment, Peter departed and when to another place (Acts 12:17).

Beyond Galilee and Judea (Jerusalem), Peter spent some brief stays in other locations, such as:

Samaria (Acts 89:14) … Lydda (Acts 9:32) … Joppa (Acts 10:5) … Caesarea (Acts 10:24) …. and Antioch (Gal.2:11).

He may have also visited at Corinth (1Cor.1:12), although the text does not demand it.

1Pet.5:13 notes that from “Babylon" (a code name for an apostate Jerusalem/Rev.17:5 & 18:2) Peter writes (1Pet.1:1).

to those who reside as aliens, scattered throughout Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia who are chosen.

There is no internal Biblical evidence that supports the notion that Peter ever visited Rome.

John's gospel appears to indicate that Peter would die by crucifixion (Jn.21:18-19).
