RESUMPTION AND INTERCESSION / Ex.33

1. God directed Moses to resume the journey to the promised land (they had been encamped at Mount Sinai). – vss.1-11

  Because of their disobedience, God would no longer travel in “their midst” but an angel would lead the way,

...I will not go up in your midst, because you are an obstinate people, lest I destroy you on the way.

  What “ornaments” are being set aside and why? - vss.4 & 6?

~Is this an expression of mourning and repentance?

2. Describe the tent of meeting. – vss.7-11

This was not the tabernacle for it had not yet been constructed.

  What was the purpose of the tent of meeting  and where ere was it located?

~ What protocol was observed when it was being used?

~What is the connection between this “outside the camp” and the concept described in Heb.13:13?

3. In response to the intercessions of Moses, did God change His mind about His presence ? – vss.14-17

  In what sense was Moses permitted to SEE God? – vss.18-23

TABLETS REPLACED & COVENANT RENEWED / Ex.34

1. Why were the tables of stone (commandments) needing to be replaced? – cf. Ex.32:19

  To whom were they given and where did this transaction take place? – vss.1-7

  What posture did Moses use in praying? – vs.8

2. What were some of the requirements of the renewing of the covenant?

Obedience – vs.11

No friendships with “the world” – vss.12-16

No molten images – vs.17

Observing the feast days and the Sabbath with specificity – vss.18f

The offering of firstfruits – vs.26

3. Describe the “shining” of the face of Moses. – vss.29-35

  Why did it shine?

  Why was the purpose of the veil?

  What was the message of the typology of the veil? – cf. 2Cor.3:1-18 - - Note in particular vs.13 7

(Moses) used to put a veil over his face that the sons of Israel might not look intently at the end of what was fading away.
