The Battle Belongs To The Lord

THE BATTLE BELONGS TO THE LORD

All of us face daily struggles of one kind or another.  Such is our human predicament.  The ancient text of Job reminds us that,

“man, who is born of woman, is short-lived and full of turmoil” (Job 14:1).  The psalms of David echo this sentiment.  “For I am ready to fall, and my sorrow is continually before me” (Ps.38:17).  In another, David prayed, “since I am afflicted and needy, let the Lord be mindful of me; Thou art my help and my deliverer…” (Ps.40:17).  Some of our struggles are more serious than others and a number of them are on the gigantic side (such as health issues, family heartaches, relationships teetering on the brink, etc.).  Could it be that the bottom line to the story of David and Goliath is a reminder to us all that, The Battle Belongs To The Lord (1Sam.17:47).  This does not mean that we don’t have to gear up for the battle (even if it’s just a rod, a slingshot and a bag of stones).  Yet, it’s important to stand with faith, confident that we do not face our struggles alone - - THE LORD IS OUR DELIVERER (1Sam.17:37).

While the outcome of our difficulties may not always appear to be a victory, God promises blessings to those who stand firm in the faith.  While our sovereign God may not always choose to grant us success, He always provides a way of escape so that we may endure it, whatever that “it” may be (1Cor.10:13).  So when the power of darkness comes in like a flood, we must remember - - the battle belongs to the Lord … And we sing glory, honor, power and strength to the Lord.
