God’s Appointed Times —

(Leviticus 23, NKJV)

Theme: The feasts are mo’edim — appointed times God set to meet with His people. Israel didn’t choose the day or the terms; they simply came when He called. 12

Governing text: “The feasts of the LORD, which you shall proclaim to be holy convocations, these are My feasts.” — Lev. 23:2. Note the possessive: He owns the calendar, fixes the hour, names the place. 3

Point One — The Appointed Rest (Lev. 23:1–3)

  • The Sabbath: a weekly appointment. Before any annual feast, God set a weekly one — a people who stop, because trusting Him means He gives rest. 45
  • Illustration — the standing appointment: a physician blocks the hour, clears the room, and waits whether or not the patient comes. God blocked the days, cleared the room, and never missed one. 6

Point Two — The Appointed Redemption (Lev. 23:4–14)

  • Passover (23:5) — blood at the door. God set the day, named the lamb, marked the door: deliverance at an appointed hour, by appointed blood. 78
  • Unleavened Bread (23:6) — redemption followed by cleansing: not just an exodus from Egypt, but Egypt’s exit from us. 9
  • Firstfruits (23:10–11) — the first sheaf waved before the field was reaped: faith in advance. 10
  • Illustration — the first sheaf: giving God the first is never about the sheaf; it’s about who owns the field. 11

Point Three — The Appointed Harvest (Lev. 23:15–22)

  • Pentecost (23:16–17) — fifty days counted; anticipation built into the calendar for an appointment already set. 1213
  • The corners left standing (23:22) — worship that meets God at the appointed hour must also meet the neighbor at the field’s edge. 14

Point Four — The Appointed Reunion (Lev. 23:23–44)

  • Trumpets (23:24) — the summons; the sound goes over the whole camp and every ear is accountable. 1516
  • Atonement (23:27–28) — one day, one man, one veil, one appointed way in; God near, on His own terms. 17
  • Tabernacles (23:42–43) — God doesn’t merely visit at an appointed time; He moves in. 18

Conclusion — He Kept His Appointments

Rest, Redemption, Harvest, Reunion — never about the ceremony, always about the appointment and the God who kept it. 19

Call to Action — Keep the Appointment

  1. Set the time — a standing hour with God this week.
  2. Clear the leaven — name one thing you’ll stop carrying into the new life.
  3. Give the firstfruits — the first of your time and income.
  4. Leave the corners — choose one person in need and provide for them. “He has already set the time and cleared the room. Will you come?” 20

Bottom line: Every feast pictures the same truth — God schedules the meeting, and He always shows up.
